After months of rumors and speculation, The BV Newswire has confirmed that Jill Scott is headed to splitsville.
The two-time Grammy Award winning neo-soul powerhouse is "going through divorce proceedings" with her longtime lover and husband of five years Lyzel Williams, an insider confirmed.
The two were married in the fall of 2001 during a private Hawaiin ceremony during a vacation.
Williams, who, at the time, was a much an in-demand graphic artist and DJ, dated Scott for seven years before the nuptials took place.
"We went to the club, we hung out, we danced, we shook it up, we drank, we partied," she spoke of Williams in an interview with 'Launch' in 2001. "But we also went to carnivals, and we took long walks. I enjoyed his company so much. I'm glad I can say I'm such, so resounding blessed to have him in my life."
He was the source of inspiration for many of her compositions, notably the fan favorite 'He Loves Me (Lyzel In E Flat)' -- which has been reinterpreted by gospel powerhouse Karen Clark-Sheard, and sang onstage by Beyonce Knowles.

Scott concluded a two-night stint at "Verizon Presents Two Nights of Soul" at New York City's Radio City Music Hall last night. The bill also included Robin Thicke and Chaka Khan.
During her near 90-minute set, the newly svelte "legend in the making" (as the evening's emcee Mo'Nique called her) seemed to stuggle through material, skipping songs from the repertoire, and even not remembering the words to her breakout hit, 'Getting in the Way.' She changed the words to 'He Loves Me' to 'You Love Me,' which was performed with a operatic vibratto that sent the audience into a frenzy.
Considered her best friend, Williams became hands-on in Scott's career management, along with her then bodyguard Bill Brown.
Her bookings are being handled by the William Morris Agency, and is reportedly self-managed.
The 35-year-old North Philadelphia native has a new song, the groovey, hip-hop-tinged manifesto 'Hate on Me,' that has surfaced online, and is expected to tell the story of her divorce in an upcoming cover story for 'Essence' magazine. Scott just wrapped filming Tyler Perry's upcoming movie 'Why Did I Get Married,' which will also star Janet Jackson.
Scott's current publicist Chris Chambers -- who also reps Usher -- said her new album should be respected by the fall.

That's too bad. I remember back when she was getting married to him how happy they were. Hopefully they can work it out - or at least walk away able to love again one day.

how old is she? is she even 30 yet? it's probably for the best, as it's stupid, at that age, to tie yourself to one person.

polymary is the way to go, imo.

being in love is great, but it just isn't healthy to stay with one person. i believe in multiple relationships of love, all at once, each bond derived from the respective qualities your partners bring.

no, for you, too.

bieng with one person builds unnecessary stress, most of which is repressed yearning for physical intimacy with other females.

in a monogamous relationship, you're constantly at war with your nature, when in the presence of a female that you share an attraction with.

you can sit there, piously romantic, and deny what i'm saying is true.

the fact of the matter is, however, that every single day (that you walk out of your house/apt) you come across females that you're attracted to; and every single day sees you refuse to act upon said attraction because you've convinced yourself that the woman you're presently with is the only one you can feel love towards.

well, why would there be a need for jealousy if the understanding is established between all parties?

do you mean you're too greedy? smile.gif

see there's your problem. you think you know about everything for everyone. that's why i put those stalin pictures up....because your views are stalinist. you think you are right about everything. there's no relativity with you.....if you believe it's true than it definitely is. it's a crazed, dogmatic way of thinking, and to be totally honest, very childish....

if you want to have multiple "monogamous" relationships at a time, you should by all means, but that doesn't mean everyone should, and you shouldn't purport to know what's best for anyone about everything.......just to note...im not disagreeing with what you said or agreeing. im disagreeing with your approach. you may be right--but the operative word is MAY....

if you were in a polyamorous relationship, you wouldn't feel driven to such violent jealousy.

while troy might be with one of his other girlfriends, you would be with victor, who has traits that are just as endearing as those you uncovered in troy.

the next day, it might be michael.

and so on.

that's how polyamorous relationships work, and it kills any need to feel jealous over anything.

the whole point of them is to combat jealousy, which is an unnatural response to territorial claims that should never be established in inter-sexual relationships.

i have multiple relationships, with females who know that i do not wish to be tied to one woman.

i will say that i've only felt a significant degree of love for just one person, someone i still care for.

but that isn't going to happen now -- perhaps never.

so i feel that it's best to take a polyamorous approach, appreciating each woman in my life for the distinct joy they bring me.

It's not just Hollywood. Not everyone is prepared for the commitment involved in making a marraige work. I've tried my ass off and still find myself failing. Not because of infidelity or anything like that. I have a partner who does not know how to work together. You have to be willing to sacrafice your self centered mentality and in this society we are taught to embrace it. Marraige in the US is a cruel joke.

You're right Lex... I've never been married, but from what I can see, its hard work. My parents have been married for 35 years, happily... but I guess God has just smiled on them, because they seem to be in the minority. I just hope I will be able to make it work when its my time. I applaud any couple who even attempts to make it work, whether it does or doesn't. You are not failing... you're just putting in the work and hoping for the best.
