Do you care anymore if rappers are fake or real? does it just boil down to "entertaining" you?

I'm just asking out of curiosity..

I just read somewhere that Rick "the biggest boss that you seen thus far" ross was actually an ex-C.O. or some shit and there is a picture with him dressed in a sheriffs uniform. I don't know if it's real or not and in all honesty...don't really care. He says it's photoshopped but i don't know, if someone did do this....i hope they're getting paid good for their talents.

Or like the wayne and baby kissing picture...

now we all know, had this happened 10+ years ago.....these niggas would have been through. But for some strange reason, wayne and baby kinda breezed through this shit unblemished. Regardless for whatever reason they kiss, old hip hop would not be trying to hear it, but new hip hop is a lot more understanding? uncaring? oblivious?

My point being...

do you as a fan of hip hop care about wether the songs you hear from an artist are real or not?

Do you care if they actually are speaking from real life situations or just imagining someone elses for a profit?

Do you want to hear reality, or do you just want to be entertained and you don't care how you get it?

I'm not bashing wayne or rick...it was just two of the bigger stories i could think of off the top of my head.

does authenticity matter to you anymore?

nope.

keepin' it "real" these days is to fool white people into buyin' you're music/image.

i don't give a fuck anymore.

why i say this is because i was listening to foxx hole radio yesterday and they were talkin' to some country music guys (can't remember the name of the group) but jamie asked them how much did their album sell so far and one of them said 20 million.

yea you read right, 20 million. i never heard of the group before never heard one song of theirs and they puttin' up thriller #.

so yea, fuck "keepin it real"

and quote i got this:
"You cried, "Keepin' it real", yet you should try keepin' it right That's understanding microphone mathematics" © Plug One

I think an artist should be able to give you a real glimpse into his life and write effectively from a fictional point of view. I have no problem with artists getting into character, as long as they own up to actually being in character. Nobody should be confined as to what ground they're able to cover as an artist. My only issue is when artists claim to be one specific thing and repeatedly announce that this is the real deal, when it's not. Art is art. You can play a gangster all day on TV, but don't run up in the actors studio and brag to James Lipton about catching bodies in real life if that's not the case. That's basically what a lot of these "entertainers" do on outlets like Smack DVD when they pull out guns and drugs as tho that's supposed to validate all the shit they talk on record. It's cool if the Big Boss Man wasn't a real cop or if Sgt. Slaughter wasn't in the military. It's kinda implied that their characters are not real. It's the implication that these rappers live everything they speak that I'm not cool with. Take Rakim's The Punisher. Dope ass record about smoking motherfuckas. Now did Rakim ever run up in the interviews talking about how he's the most thorough dude in the streets? Nope. He didn't feel the need to justify his art, because that's all it was. Art. And nobody challenged his intentions with making that song. Even KRS looking out the window with the mack, dude still managed to come across as an artist. He never really glorified the fact that he would fuck you up if you got out of line, he just did it. A lot of these new generation acts act as though they have something to prove. Just be a fucking artist and create something interesting.

it's him...

yeah it does matter...only question is what's real?....if u writin crack raps...i don't 2 much wanna hear U glorifyin it regardless of whether or not U actually hustled the block

if U write like Lupe...see Lupe writes hood shit from his perspective..and makes U think about what some of us call "Cool" (pun intended)

so yeah keepin it real matters....but at the end of the day it's the content that matters

I'm sure there's a few inmates out there that could vouch for "Officer Ricky" or whatever being a C.O.

How many of 'em really did? I mean, seriously, how many of these cats talkin 'bout movin kilos have ever laid hands on one?

I can see dudes movin rocks, grams and maybe oz's, but I highly doubt any of 'em "tore the block apart" like they say they did. N_ggas was more likely small change dudes, not much more.

the only thing i care about is dope music.

if it aint dope, i aint checkin for it.

and if it is dope, im not doing research nor listening to people trying ot bring the artist down because they are getting theirs...

if its dope, thats all that fuckign matters because all it is anyway IS entertainment.

Not really. I've been over that whole "real/fake" thing for a while now.

If theyre entertaining and are good at what they do I'll fuck with em.

I mean, rappers are masters of hyperbole anyway so folks should never take what a rapper says in a song at face value in most cases.

Shit i saw an old pic of Rawse in a mag wearing a teeeeeny chain lookin magnificently regular so he couldna been doin it like he says in his songs.

the minute this became "entertainment" instead of hip hop..real went out the window...

Ghostwriter/Stylist/Publasist/Hot Producer...

when you don't have to be born to do it anymore...you can just feed somone the words and the style and craft it how you want.

So to answer the question...I'm asuming everyone is lying anyway...so who cares..bring the good tunes.

if people consider sugar hill gang's rappers delight a milestone for hiphop then real was never in the window.

yes because the definition of art is something done by someone primarily for the purpose of sharing their inner feelings, their inner self, their inner experience.
